rainforest protection

Protecting our world heritage
Ancient forests are vital to us in many ways.
They are the lungs of our planet as they soak up CO2 from the atmosphere and store it - in essence they clean our air.
In addition they maintain a maintain the balance of life on Earth. The rainforests cover less than 2% of the earth’s surface but they contain roughly 50% of the life on the planet - roughly 15 million species such as plants, insects, animals, fish, birds.
Moreover the rainforests contain an abundance of products for medicinal purposes. Some estimate that as much as 25% of Western pharmaceuticals are derived from rainforest ingredients.
However, we are losing this vtal oart part of our world heritage at an alarming rate of 1% pr year in favor of farming, biofuel production, cattle ranching or unlawful logging operations.
About 20% of the world’s total CO2 emissions come from tree felling and deforestation fires (Source: International Panel on Climate Change). This would correspond to the CO2 volume generated from flying eight million people by plane from London to New York every day of the year.
Munio promotes sustainable forestry to prevent the ruthless expolitation of rainforest areas by only using FSC certified wood in production.
