For every Munio item sold, we will plant a tree in tropical areas.
We lose roughly 1% of tropical forest areas yearly to cattle ranching, soy plantations, or other types of farming. That corresponds to the removal of 30.000 football fields every day. Every bead is not only created from sustainable wood from FSC®-certified forest areas, but also a contribution to reestablishing the forest areas that have been removed to accomodate farming or plantations.
For every Munio item you buy, we will plant a tree for you in tropical areas. If you have purchased your item in a retail store you need to register it. Please follow the link below. Description of Munio's reforestation initiative
Munio has established a partnership with the Danish NGO Forests of the World in the participation of reforestation projects with the necessary transparency, clout and sinificance for the local communities.
There are many types of reforestation projects with varying impact. Munio will solely participate in reforestation projects tha fulfill the demands we make to our own behavior and our products as described in Canopy Wood Code of Conduct. In order for a reforestation project to qualify as a Munio project, the following criteria must be met:
- Total transparency in the project where all costs are being disclosed
- A clear and precise specification of where the trees are being planted
- Independent verification that the trees have indeed been plantet
It is not technically possibe to establish a reforestation project without considerable start capital and a constant revenue stream into the project. The reason is that there are huge costs associated with securing a tree's survival, so it can growup to be big and strong, prevent soil erosion, and secure waterways. The tree must be carefully taken care of for the first period, which means considerable associated costs.
Munio will provide the first 25.000 DKK for the start up of the reforestation project, that lives up to our demands, when the right project has been defined.
The money for the reforestation is taken out of our income and will not be sent on to the customer.
An independent accountant will be asked to thoroughly examine the project economy every year.
